Breathe Better Sing Together was set up in 2015 by session leader Maggie Shaw following her own diagnosis of COPD. She was studying music at Christ Church Canterbury University at the time, and her course leader suggested she start the group to help herself and others.
The aim of the group is to improve breath control which often leads to better lung performance for people with lung conditions. The sessions are open to everyone however, whether you have a lung condition or just want to improve your singing ability.
Breathe Better Sing Together is not a choir, so no experience or singing skills are needed.
It costs just £1.00 per session to attend.
Our sessions last about an hour with a break for refreshments in the middle. They start with stretches followed by breathing and singing exercises, and then move into singing karaoke songs. The choice of songs reflects the season and the tastes of those attending. A lot of the songs are from the 1950s to the 1970s, but newer and younger songs are added all the time.
Breathe Better Sing Together has expanded its online presence over the years. We now have a Facebook page that is regularly undated with news about our group. We have recently created a YouTube Channel featuring videos of singing exercise you can practice at home to improve your breathing.
